Addiction is a Brain Disease

Dr Jim Craig, a Consultant Psychiatrist at Castle Craig, describes addiction as a brain disease from which “recovery is always possible”.

He likens addiction to diabetes, a chronic disease of the pancreas, due to the fact that addiction is a chronic disease of the brain.

Like diabetes, addiction must be managed and kept under control through a well-defined rehab treatment programme.
