Outpatient treatment in the community

Outpatient treatment can be either funded by the NHS (under the direction of social services) or purchased privately.  During treatment the patient is able to continue living at home while attending treatment for alcohol and drug addiction.

Community rehab treatment may include one or more of the following:

  • Therapeutic groups
  • Support groups
  • Education groups
  • ‘Life skills’ courses
  • Individual counselling
  • Drop-in services
  • Employment training

Community rehab does not work for everyone and patients are still surrounded by their acquaintances who use drugs and alcohol. There may be no support at night or over the weekends. There will be waiting lists for statutory providers and contact with a treatment professional may be limited.
